When I interned with a local fashion designer last year, she was getting elaborate hats made for her trip to Venice. I remember eating vegan food at the milliner's house and petting the cats -- but I also remember my stunned expression when I saw the giant hats with feathers, flowers, and patterns that I had only seen in costume books before.
